All ye stragglers          yes you          fall in
some of us          loom          larger than          others
eyes          a narrow quarter inch          above water          rhubarbing

so much to          watch          skittering Gerridae          skinny-legged
pooling surface tension          brackish, occasionally          cannibalizing

red-eyed trolls          nose-flarers          superlative combers
beachballers, occasionally          nibblers

all this kinesis          keeping          the insect world          a-twitter
until diapause          causes us          to crawl          under          leaves
